Dear all the students, faculties, and alumni,
Kyungpook National University School of Medicine (KNUSM) has a glorious long-standing history. In the early 20th century, Daegu College of Medicine, our predecessor, along with Kyungsung College of Medicine, Kyungsung Imperial University School of Medicine, Severance Medical College in Seoul, and Pyeongyang College of Medicine in Pyeongyang, was the cradle for providing modern medical education services in Korea. Based on this heritage, KNUSM has been leading the creation and development of modern medical science and education in this country.
As a leader, KNUSM took the important role as a pioneer in the creation of the new medical curriculum, which was started in the early 1990s, and the reformed curriculum has now been the standard for medical education in Korea. We were one of the first medical schools in Korea to accept Block Lectures and PBL (Problem-Based Learning) in our education curriculum. Moreover, by taking OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) and CPX (Clinical Performance eXamination), we reinforced our clinical education.
With the advanced type of educational curriculum, we enable our students to study more efficiently. Moreover, in order to discover and foster students with high potential, we are providing the opportunity to participate in a variety of research programs during vacations. Students are encouraged to take part in the research program held inside the school settings and in colleges abroad.
Student dormitory, named “Myung Eui Kwan”, which is equipped with the newest facilities and situated near campus, welcomes students from other regions to study at our school. In addition to our own scholarship, we offer scholarships from outside sources to financially assist the students in need. Moreover, the second campus, which was established in 2013, provides a better environment and more opportunities for students.
Kyungpook National University Hospital, where medical students take a clinical clerkship, is truly one of the highest-level medical institutions with the newest facilities and excellent medical teams. In addition, with the newly opened second one in Chilgok, the hospitals will be able to provide a wider range of clinical education.
The professors and researchers at KNUSM are continuously devoting themselves to creative research, and until now, we have produced highly acclaimed research results nationally and internationally. By hosting research funds from the Korean government and also by supporting human and material resources and building infrastructure, the school will continue to provide researchers with an atmosphere where they can produce their best results. Moreover, the school will continue to ensure the recruitment of PhD students, post-docs, and research professors both within basic medical research and clinical research in order to further increase the internationally recognized products and high level of medical science carried out at the school.
KNUSM has more than 9,000 graduates, and our alumni are working in diverse fields, such as medical practice, medical education, research, and public health, both inside and outside Korea. Our alumni’s achievements have not only contributed to Korea’s modern and contemporary medical development but are being a model for our students.
KNUSM is not going to dwell on its proudest moments of the past. We will actively prepare for a new blueprint to step up as a world-class medical education and research institution to meet the demand for highly qualified MD students within basic and clinical medical fields and to meet the growing demand for biomedical PhDs in the biotech and pharmaceutical fields.
Our doors are open not only to local students but also to excellent students from different countries. We are always ready to provide the best environment.
