Introduction

The department of orthopaedic surgery, Kyungpook National University School of Medicine was founded in 1959 being separated from the department of general surgery. At present, there are 10 full-time faculty members, 2 clinical faculties. Five clinical fellows and 13 residents who treat patients and do researches actively.​ Orthopaedic surgery concerned with disorders and trauma of the spine and pelvis and upper and lower extremities and their adnexa including bones, joints, nerves, vessels, tendons, and muscles, and the repair of deformities of these parts by medical, surgical, and physical methods. The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery focuses on patient care in each of these orthopaedic subspecialties: adult reconstruction and joint replacement, sports medicine, spine surgery, surgery of the hand and wrist, peripheral nerve surgery, microsurgery, surgery of the shoulder and elbow, surgery of the foot and ankle, musculoskeletal tumor surgery, orthopaedic trauma Surgery, pediatric orthopaedics, and physical medicine and rehabilitation. 

The learing starts from osteology and anatomy, even though clinical experience starts from practical training in the hospital. Our department also tries to provide the experience of state-of-art science and its application in orthopaedic surgery.​
